How to Use Player Props: Shots on Target Stats and Hit Rates

Player Props ranks the players in upcoming games by how often they cleared common prop lines, such as one shot on target, over their recent matches, with every game shown underneath.

Updated · by Joe

A player prop is a bet on one player rather than the match: over 0.5 shots on target, over 1.5 shots, to be booked, to score. The number that matters is how often that player actually clears the line. Player Props gives you that hit rate for the players in upcoming games, with every game behind it.

It is in beta, and it does not show bookmaker prices. You bring the price. It brings the record.

Three ways to read it

  • Props — The hit rate for a line. Over 0.5 shots on target, 6 of the last 10 games, is 60%. The per-game average sits next to it.
  • Per game — Around fifty stats per game, from shots and passes to duels, tackles, cards and saves.
  • Totals — The raw count over the window.

The prop lines are shots from 0.5 to 3.5, shots on target from 0.5 to 2.5, goals and assists at 0.5 and 1.5, and tackles, fouls committed and fouls won from 0.5 to 2.5.

Choosing the window

Pick the last 5, 10, 15 or 20 games, or the last 365 days. The page opens on the last 20 games, ranked by goals per game, for players with 450 minutes or more.

The minutes filter does more work than it looks. A substitute who scored twice in three short cameos has a lovely rate and no reason to start. Raise the minimum and the list becomes players who play.

A player needs at least three appearances in the window to be ranked on a line.

The game log

Open a player to see each of their last 25 matches as a bar, coloured by whether they cleared the line. Change the line on that player and the bars recolour. I look for the pattern, not just the percentage. Six from ten made up of the last six games is a different player to six from ten spread evenly.

Turning a hit rate into a bet

A hit rate is a rough chance. 60% is fair odds of about 1.67, which is one divided by 0.6. If the bookmaker offers 2.00 on that player's shot on target, the price implies 50%, which is shorter than his record. If it offers 1.50, the price implies 67%, more than the record supports.

Implied probability covers that conversion. Check the opposition and whether he is starting, too. Shots on target against a deep, packed defence are not the same as against a side that leaves gaps.

For cards, the referee matters as much as the player.

Free and Pro

Free accounts can open the first three fixtures and the first three competitions. Pro opens everything, plus search and the option to rank every player across all fixtures.

How to use it

  1. Pick a fixture — Open Player Props and choose the game or competition.
  2. Choose the stat and line — Shots on target over 0.5 is a good place to start.
  3. Set the window and minutes — Last 10 or 20 games, with a minutes floor that removes cameos.
  4. Open the log, then check the price — Convert the hit rate to fair odds and compare.

FAQ

Where are the odds?

Not on the page yet. Use the hit rate to work out fair odds, then compare with your bookmaker.

Is there an anytime goalscorer line?

Goals over 0.5 is the same thing: the player scoring at least once.

Why is a player I expected missing?

They may not meet the minutes floor, or have fewer than three appearances in the window. Lower the minutes or widen the window.

Defensive contributions pay two points once a player clears a fixed number of actions in a match. What you are buying is how often he clears it, and the DefCon board ranks on exactly that.

A differential only helps if a good week from him moves you up the rankings. That means low ownership and a strong projection together, and the differentials list filters for both.
