Rate My FPL Team: How the Projections Work

Most team raters tell you what your squad has already scored, which FPL tells you for free. Or they give you a mark out of a hundred and no idea where it came from.

Rate my team looks forward. It projects everyone you own, names a captain, points at the picks costing you points, and ranks the legal transfers that would add the most. Every number has a reason you can open up and read.

Finding your team ID

Log in to the Fantasy Premier League site and open the Points tab. The address reads something like fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/1234567/event/1. The number after /entry/ is your team ID. It never changes. Sign in to OddAlerts before you connect it and your squad loads itself every time you come back.

At the start of a season, squads can only be imported once FPL unlocks them at the first deadline.

Where the projection comes from

Each player is turned into per-90 rates for expected goals, expected assists, defensive contributions, saves and cards. The rates are weighted by how many minutes sit behind them, so three good substitute appearances do not look like a season. Then they are multiplied by the minutes he is likely to get and adjusted for each fixture.

The fixture adjustment is the part other raters skip. Each game is priced from the betting market, the same way the fixture ticker works, not FPL's fixed one-to-five. If a match gets re-priced on team news, the projection follows.

Free accounts get three gameweeks of projection. Pro looks six ahead, and up to ten.

Form, counted properly

The form panel is the last six Premier League matches each player actually played, shown as how often he cleared a line rather than only his average. A forward with three shots every week and one with fifteen in a single game and none since both average three. They are not the same player.

Reading the result

Captain is the highest projection for the next gameweek. If two players are close, the fixture usually decides it.

Transfers are ranked by how many projected points they add over the window, inside your budget and the three-per-club rule. Set a maximum price if you only want to look at cheaper options for a slot.

The picks holding you back are the two starters who return the least per pound over the window. They are the first places to look for an upgrade. Sometimes that is a bad fixture run. Sometimes it is minutes.

It also checks the bench. If your first substitute projects as well as your weakest starter, it tells you, so an auto-sub costs nothing.

It will not build you a new team. If you are starting from nothing, or playing a wildcard, use the team builder instead.

How to use it

  1. Enter your team ID — Open rate my team and paste the number from your FPL points page.
  2. Check the captain — Then look at the fixture behind the pick.
  3. Read the transfers — Set a price cap if you are only replacing one slot.
  4. Check the alternatives — Look at differentials and the DefCon board before you confirm a move.
  5. Make the call — The rater ranks options. The squad is still yours.

FAQ

Is rate my FPL team free?

Yes. Free covers three gameweeks of projection. Pro looks further ahead.

Why does it disagree with FPL's fixture difficulty?

Fixtures here are priced from the betting odds, which change with team news and form. FPL's rating is set early and rarely moves.

Does it count defensive contributions?

Yes. The chance of clearing the DefCon threshold is part of every defender's and midfielder's projection.
