On a home -0.5 line, the home team has to win. A draw loses, the same as an away win. Home +0.5 is the other side: you win unless the home team loses, so a draw is enough. That is why -0.5 often pays a similar price to the home win, and +0.5 often looks like double chance without the draw being listed separately.
Whole-number lines can push. Home -1 means the home team must win by two or more. If they win by exactly one, the stake is returned. Nobody wins and nobody loses. That push is the main difference from a European handicap, which usually still has three outcomes.
Quarter lines
Quarter lines split the stake in half. Home -0.75 is half on -0.5 and half on -1.
- Win by two or more: both halves win.
- Win by one: the -0.5 half wins, the -1 half is a push. You win half the bet.
- Draw or lose: both halves lose.
Home -0.25 is the mirror. Half the stake is on the straight win (-0.5) and half is on +0 (draw returns the stake, a win pays out). A draw on -0.25 loses half and pushes half.
I would not memorise a table. Settle one line on a real scoreline until it feels obvious, then the rest follow. The odds calculator is the quicker way to turn the price into a chance once you know which line you are actually on.
Why people use them
The draw is where a lot of 1X2 prices go to die. A handicap lets you back a side to win, or to not lose, without paying for all three outcomes on the coupon. It also lets you back a strong favourite at a longer price by giving the other team a goal start, which is just a different way of saying you need a bigger margin.
It does not make the bet safer. A -1.5 favourite still has to win by two. If you want the model chance of a result before you look at the handicap price, the AI predictions page is the 1X2, both teams to score and goals view. Handicap settlement is then just maths on top of who wins and by how many.
FAQ
What does -0.5 mean on an Asian handicap?
The team with -0.5 must win the match. A draw loses the bet. It is the closest handicap line to a normal home or away win.
What happens if the match finishes level on a whole-number handicap?
The stake is returned. Home -1 pushed when the home team wins by exactly one goal. Home +1 pushed when they lose by exactly one. Quarter lines cannot push the whole stake, because the two halves settle differently.

Implied probability turns the handicap price into a percentage you can compare with your own chance. A value bet is the same idea on any market, including a handicap: the price implies less chance than you think is fair.
