Dropping odds means the decimal price has come in. A selection that was 3.00 and is now 2.50 has shortened. The implied probability has risen from about 33% to about 40%. The opposite move, a price getting longer, is a drift. A drop describes the direction of the market. It does not, by itself, mean the bet is value.
How Dropping Odds Works
Prices move when bookmakers take bets, when they copy another book, and when news changes the chance of an outcome. A drop at one soft book can be that book catching up with a sharper price that was already shorter. A drop across several books, led by a market that sharp bettors use, is a stronger sign that the estimated chance has changed. The size of the drop matters less than the price you can still get compared with your own number.
Steam is the same idea said more loosely: money has come for a selection and the price has shortened. You still need the current odds, not the fact that a move happened.
Why Dropping Odds Matters for Betting
A drop can be information, and it can be too late. If the price has already shortened past your fair odds, the value has gone even though the odds "dropped". If the price has shortened and is still longer than your estimate, the move has not used up the value. Watching the open, the current price, and a sharp reference answers that. Watching only a red arrow does not.

Football price moves are on the dropping odds page. How to read them is in the dropping odds guide. Pinnacle's moves are separate, on Pinnacle.
FAQ
Do dropping odds mean sharp money?
Sometimes. A price can also shorten because a book is balancing a popular side, or because it is copying a move elsewhere. The reason is not printed on the number.
Should I bet something just because the odds dropped?
No. Check the price you can get now against the chance you give the outcome. A drop that has already gone past that chance is a worse bet than it was before the move.
