What Over 1.5 Goals Means

Over 1.5 goals means the match finishes with two goals or more. A 1-0 loses, because one goal is not over 1.5.

Updated · by OddAlerts

Football scores are whole numbers, so 1.5 is a way of saying "two or more". Over 1.5 wins on 1-1, 2-0, 2-1 and anything higher. It loses on 0-0, 1-0 and 0-1. Who scores does not matter, only the total.

Under 1.5 is the other side of the same line, and wins on zero or one goal.

Why the price is short

Two goals is a low bar. In many leagues, most matches clear it, so over 1.5 is usually priced well under evens. That is why it turns up in so many accumulators.

A short price is not a safe price. At 1.30 the implied chance is 77%. If the real chance in that match is 72%, the bet loses money over time, even though it wins most weeks. Stacking several 1.30 legs makes it worse, because the margin on each leg multiplies. The question is still whether the price is longer than your chance, not whether the bet usually lands.

Leagues where games most often go over 1.5

The table is the current season, every league we track, sorted by how often games finish with two goals or more. It is not limited to the famous leagues, so youth and women's competitions often sit near the top. Those are real rates.

A league rate is a starting point, not a prediction. Two defensive sides in a high-scoring league can still play out 1-0. I use the table to see how normal two goals is in that competition, then look at the two teams.

For the fixtures rather than the definition, the over 1.5 goals page ranks upcoming matches by our model probability. Over 2.5 goals is the next line up: 2-0 wins over 1.5 and loses over 2.5.

FAQ

Does 1-1 win over 1.5 goals?

Yes. 1-1 is two goals, and two is over 1.5.

Is over 1.5 goals the same as both teams to score?

No. 2-0 wins over 1.5 and loses both teams to score, because the away team did not score. Both bets win on 1-1.

Why is over 1.5 goals priced so short?

Because most matches have at least two goals. The price reflects that. A short price can still be a bad price if the chance is lower than the odds imply.

Over 2.5 goals and under 2.5 goals are the main goals line. Both teams to score asks a different question about the same goals. Implied probability shows how much chance a short price is really asking for.
