Learn How to Use Our Football Betting Tools
Short definitions of the terms used across OddAlerts. Each one answers a single question, then points at the tool that uses it.
An Asian handicap gives one side a goal start so you are betting on the margin, not on a 1X2 coupon. A -0.5 line is just the home win, with the draw taken out.
Both teams to score (BTTS) is a football bet that wins only when each team scores at least one goal in the match.
Closing line value (CLV) is the difference between the odds you took and the closing odds for the same selection, usually measured against the price available just before kickoff.
Dropping odds means the price on a selection has shortened, so the implied chance of that outcome is higher than it was earlier.
Expected goals (xG) estimates the chance that a shot becomes a goal, based on the quality of the chance, and a team's xG is the total of those chances.
A value bet is a selection whose odds are longer than the fair odds implied by the probability you assign to that outcome.
Implied probability is the chance a price is offering, before anyone argues about the match. Decimal odds of 2.00 imply 50%, because 1 divided by 2.00 is 0.50.
Over 2.5 goals means the match finishes with three goals or more. Two goals is a loser, because 2 is not over 2.5.
