How to Find FPL Differentials

A differential is a player most managers do not own. When he scores, you climb. When a player in 60% of teams scores, everyone near you climbs with you, and your rank barely moves.

Low ownership on its own is easy. There are hundreds of players nobody owns, and most of them are unowned for a reason. The useful differential is the overlooked player with a projection that holds up. That is what the differentials list on FPL predicted points is built to find.

How the list is built

It starts with available players who are expected to play at least 45 minutes and have a projected score above zero. Injured players, doubts and reserves drop out before ownership is even considered.

Then the ownership cap. The sidebar list lets you choose 5%, 10% or 15% owned, and it opens on 15%. The Differentials view in the main board uses 10%. What is left is ranked by projected points, and when two players are level, by points per £m.

The ownership figure is the current percentage. It does not show who is rising or falling yet. We are collecting the history first, and trend labels come once there is enough of it to trust.

Choosing the cap

5% is a real punt. Fine for a chase late in the season, and risky in October.

10% is the middle. Enough managers know the player that he is not a mistake, few enough that he still moves your rank.

15% is closer to "slightly under the radar". Use it when you want a safer upgrade that is still different from your mini-league.

Checking one before you buy

Click a player and the projection breaks down component by component: appearances, goals, assists, clean sheets, goals conceded, saves, defensive actions, bonus and cards. If the whole projection rests on one thing, like a penalty duty or a single good fixture, know that before you spend the transfer.

Then look at his club on the fixture ticker. A differential with three kind games is the best kind. One with a blank in week two is a wasted transfer. Cheap defenders are often differentials because people forget about defensive contribution points, and those points do not need a clean sheet.

How to use it

  1. Open the explorer — Go to FPL predicted points and find the Differentials list in the sidebar, or switch the board to Differentials.
  2. Set the ownership cap — 5%, 10% or 15%, depending on how much risk you want.
  3. Open the top few — Read where the projection comes from, and check the minutes.
  4. Check the fixtures — The ticker for the next few weeks.
  5. Score the move — Put it through rate my team to see if it beats the transfers you were already considering.

FAQ

What ownership counts as a differential in FPL?

There is no official number. Under 10% is the common meaning. Under 5% is a real punt. The list lets you pick.

Should my team be full of differentials?

No. Your rank comes from beating the field, and the field owns the players who score most. Most managers keep the popular premiums and use one or two differentials where the projection is close.

Why isn't a player I like on the list?

He is either over the ownership cap, flagged as a doubt or injured, or not expected to play 45 minutes.
